Monday through Friday can be crazy. Overstuffed with work, school, activities, obligations.
Weekends in our household are sacred. To me, weekends are about four people (plus one furry friend) just taking the time to reconnect and enjoy being a family. Whatever we choose to do needs to reflect that goal.
Even if there’s a little bit of work or birthday parties or chores, our weekends tend to be pretty quiet. Yet I’ve noticed Facebook and Twitter are peppered with complaints every weekend about how many activities and To Do’s there are on people’s weekend agendas. I wonder why people work so hard all week only to drive themselves (and their loved ones) crazy on the weekend. Every once in a while, we have a super crazy, jam-packed weekend, but very rarely.
We don’t say yes to every social or even work-related event invitation. We don’t sign our kids up for a bunch of sports or activities to complain about. We don’t have to have a perfectly clean and well-kept home.
We choose to have somewhat lazy, family-filled, laid-back weekends. My husband makes chocolate chip pancakes. My son builds Legos. My daughter plays dress up and make-believe. I write and craft. We watch Food Network shows. We do some chores. Sometimes we meet up with friends. Usually we go do something fun together at the last minute.
What are your weekends like? Do they make you smile? I think they should, and I hope that they do. :)
