Today is Election Day, the most exhilarating day of the year in my mind. More than Christmas, more than my birthday, more than National Chocolate Day, I LOVE ELECTION DAY. I’m not going to remind you to vote, because quite frankly if you don’t vote, you’re an idiot, and no reminder from little ol’ me is going to change that fact. What I want to use this space for today is to give thanks to the people who have been and are continuing to truly make a difference: the volunteers who have been knocking on doors, making phone calls, hosting election fundraisers, spreading the word and sharing meaningful conversations everywhere about their beliefs. Right, left, independent – if you have used your voice in any way possible this year to inspire, to challenge, to help others feel the passion that you feel about making a difference in this country, thank you. THANK YOU, great citizens. You are the true heroes. More powerful than political ads, more effective than mailers – YOU are the reason our country is so amazing. You help others see why it is not “their” responsibility, but OUR responsibility to be informed and involved.
So yes, get out and vote, but be sure to take a second to thank all of the volunteers at the polls today. This is one of my favorite videos, because it’s about the most important people involved in the elections: it’s about you.
And if you haven’t voted yet, find your polling place here:
