“On the road again… I just can’t wait to get on the road again… ” Sing it with me, friends!
Do you travel for work? I used to travel a lot, but since starting my own business 10 years ago (and since having kids), I’ve tried to limit my time away, or at least try to include my family in my work travels. Now that my kids are older, I’m starting to travel more for work again… and I LOVE it.
But sometimes travel means being away for holidays, and with the 4th of July coming up, I know that some of my friends are away from home, either traveling for work or en route to exciting locales . . . and stuck in hotels during the 4th. Even if you’ll be hotel-bound for the holiday, you can still have an Independence Day celebration on the road that’s just as special as if you were at home.
Red, White, and Bubbly
For me, few things sing of celebration than a bottle of bubbly. On my most recent road trip to Montana, I wanted to celebrate the last night on the road, so I purchased a bottle of Ménage à Trois Prosecco. You can find Ménage à Trois wines in most major grocery stores nationwide, which makes it a great Go To wine label for the traveling 21+ set. This sparkling wine is made with 100% Glera grapes from Italy in the traditional Charmat method, meaning you’re getting a fantastic Italian wine. It’s bright and bubbly, with strong notes of green apple – a wonderful bevvie to indulge in to help you celebrate the 4th.
If you’re on the road and staying in a hotel during the 4th of July, keep the Ménage à Trois Prosecco in your mini-fridge until it’s nice and cool. Then when you’re ready, grab the hotel room ice bucket, fill it with ice, and use it to keep the Prosecco chilled throughout the evening as you watch the fireworks on television (or, if you’re lucky, the local fireworks from the comfort of your hotel!).
Spark Up Your Bubbly With Berries
One super easy way to add a little patriotic color to your Prosecco is to add fresh berries. When I ordered room service on our last night traveling as a special treat, I asked the hotel restaurant to send any fresh fruit they had. The strawberries helped infuse a special summer flavor to the Prosecco; if the hotel had blueberries, then it would really be a red, white, and blue glass of bubbles!
Patriotic Prosecco Pairings
When I’m home for the 4th of July, I love a classic BBQ with hot dogs, burgers, pasta salads, s’mores, corn on the cob. But when traveling, I think it’s nice to indulge a bit, and since America is the melting pot of cuisines and cultures, I suggest trying something different for your patriotic Prosecco food pairings.
Prosecco goes very well with simple salads, fruit tarts, and seafood, and it also pairs amazingly well with food that has some slight spice to it. I paired it here with these room service fish tacos.
You could also pair it with a Chinese chicken salad, spring rolls with peanut sauce, or a Mediterranean pasta entree.
Go Bold or Go Home
And if a Prosecco doesn’t tickle your fancy while you’re away on Independence Day, go straight for the RED in red, white, and blue and opt for the Ménage à Trois Red. This California red blend combines Zinfandel, Cabernet, and Merlot grapes to give you a medium bodied red that pairs well with hearty room service meals, from a big juicy American burger to a thick specialty steak.
Or, since you’re traveling on a holiday, why not go for dessert first and pair this red blend with a rich, decadent chocolate cake? Trust me when I say: the two go hand-in-hand, and truly make the holiday special — even on the road.
