Being a mother is everything and more and sometimes too much. Everything sweet and spicy and sour. Everything soothing and loving and frustrating. Everything above all else. To me, that’s motherhood in a nutshell.
Being a mother is absolute bliss to me. Crazy, loud, nonstop, heartbreakingly beautiful bliss.
On this Mother’s Day, I’m celebrating the silly little adventures my kids and I get to do. Like enjoy a very last-minute, 20-hour staycation at a hip little hotel near the airport, so we could enjoy more time with my husband between his flight home and his next flight out, instead of wasting four hours in the car in traffic.
The Bliss Kids L-O-V-E hotels. It was so awesome to surprise them after they got home from school Friday!
We got to hang out with my husband from 1am until 7am. So, most of that time was spent sleeping, but enough of it was spent hugging and laughing and the kids sharing everything that has happened while he’s been out of town.
Then we packed up, took him back to the airport, and headed to IHOP for a way-too-early breakfast.
After we hung out and enjoyed the hotel for a bit longer, the kids and I headed home. And there, hours later, the doorbell rang, and these beautiful tulips greeted me.
I honestly did not expect my husband to get me anything at all for Mother’s Day since he was going out of town — and since, to be frank, I don’t really care one way or another if my husband gets me a Mother’s Day present. It’s like Valentine’s Day to me: gestures all year long mean much more than silly expected gifts on Hallmark holidays. I didn’t even think about it. So these unexpected lovely tulips, and the sweet note that came with them, brought a little tear to my eyes.
Mother’s Day Brunch
The kids and I spent much of the rest of Saturday getting ready for the Mother’s Day Brunch I am hosting today. My parents are coming over, as are my brother, sister-in-law, and their four boys. Gotta love family time.
To prep for the brunch, my daughter helped me make chocolate covered marshmallows on Saturday. So easy to make, so much fun for the kids to make and to eat, and so lovely and colorful to photograph.

Also for the brunch, I made a mushroom, spinach, and bacon quiche:
And, as requested by Bliss Boy, blueberry muffins with crumble topping:
Happy Mother’s Day to Me . . . From Me!
Later today, after I get a few hours of work done, I hope to unwind by playing with my new toy:
I finally got a Silhouette Cameo!! A friend told me about an amazing deal on Amazon, and I jumped to purchase it for $150 off. Can’t wait to break it in!
Do you have a Silhouette? What would you recommend as my first project, and/or what are your favorite simple DIY projects to do using the Silhouette?
