Do you take a lot of photos and videos while traveling? Check out today's travel photography gear tip feature: the Sandisk Extreme Storage. It gives me extra travel photo storage and piece of mind when I'm on-the-go!
Every week, I take at least 500 photos - this is a low estimated average. I photograph my travels, food and drink recipes, food and wine events, and wine photo shoots. Not to mention documentation of my own daily life with family and friends. My life is a constant cycle of taking, downloading, editing, and appropriately categorizing and storing photos.
What saves my sanity is having systems and a consistent work flow. Otherwise, I spiral into a rabbit hole of unedited, untitled photos. Photos that are saved in not enough or too many places, making work extremely unproductive and unnecessarily challenging.
A Travel Blogger's Photography Work Flow
I'm constantly on the go, moving from one project to the next. So I need to make sure that I always have room on my phone, camera, and computers for new photos.
I've got all of the cloud storage imaginable, but it's still not enough or fast enough for me. So I've been using external hard drives. But those can be large, clunky, and even those that claim they are high speed still feel like they're too slow for me.
Compact, Portable Travel Photo Storage
SanDisk is the brand of memory cards that I have used for over a decade. They recently came out with a portable travel photo storage drive that is compact and FAST. I've only had it for a short while, but I'm honestly VERY impressed with it.
The Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD is SO small - it fits in the palm of my hand! And I love that it can easily be hooked by carabiner to my backpack or camera bag. Genius move for those of us who work on-location a lot, and are constantly on-the-go.
It's also rugged, which is great for travel photographers who work in so many different elements. Living and working out in wet Oregon much of the year, I also love that theThe Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD is water resistant. You shouldn't try to dunk it in the ocean, but it can withstand the day-to-day elements of the Pacific Northwest, which is key for me.
Perhaps most importantly for those of us who take a ton of high res photos and videos, this teeny tiny workhorse holds up to 1TB of storage. It's also super fast -Up to 550MB/sec. read speeds, which is faster than most external drives I've worked with - allowing me to quickly move, edit, and save files.
And, as I am the paranoid person who saves files in three different places "just in case!", SanDisk's SecureAccess™ with 128-bitAES encryption software gives me peace of mind knowing my files are safe and secure in case anything happens to my SSD.
I'm looking forward to seeing how many more ways this little portable time and space saver can change my day-to-day photography life. So far, so good! It's something I honestly did not even know I needed, but now that I have it, I can't believe I didn't seek this amazing device out sooner.
Where to buy portable travel photo storage
You can purchase the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD at your local BestBuy or online at BestBuy.com. It retails for about $399, but right now, you can find it on sale at various online retailers.

I once was shooting video when—GULP—I ran out of room on my card. Thankfully I was able to switch cards with another camera, but it was nearly a disaster. I should have had a portable drive like this one!

That's always the worst! A portable drive is the way to go!

Thank you for sharing this post. I'm not yet to the point where you are (the need for so much storage) but I'm sure I will get there eventually. Now, I've got a great option to look into when that time comes.

This sounds like a great way to store all of the extra photos that accumulated before you're able to pull them and edit them. I take atleast 500 per week as well!
Marlynn | UrbanBlissLife says
It really is the best! Especially if you are taking that many photos! :)

Wow I think I need to invest in one of these, Cloud storage just isn't working for me and I need a better way to sort all my photos out. Does it come with any kind of warranty do you know?
