Once upon a time, I designed wedding collections. Invitations, save-the-dates, programs, party favors. Beautiful, modern, whimsical, full of love, love, love.
It all started with my own wedding, 11 years ago as of this past Saturday.
These look so simple to me now, and yet, still perfect for our own wedding.
Colors: periwinkle and silver
Theme: a simple flower stamp I fell in love with became the thread that weaved all coordinating elements together
Below is our 4-piece invitation, which I had printed onto white cardstock, adhered to silver cardstock, then wrapped with vellum that I hand-stamped, and tied with a silver organza bow.
DIY items included Save-the-Dates (magnets with a photo I took of our wedding location), invitations, programs…
flower petal cones, table names and numbers, table name stories, photo booth cards, main table runners and ringbearer pillow sewed by my mom, and I drew the cake design that the amazing Jaciva’s bakery made come to (yummy and beautiful) life…
So many memories… and in the end, no matter how basic, how simple these items are that I created, the love that flows from them, through them, grows beyond their design.
For all of you creating DIY weddings, remember: it’s not about getting it all right.
It’s not about the perfect color combo…
the perfect font…
the perfect paper.
It’s not about the perfect anything.
It’s about the love, and when you create with love, the beauty of the uniqueness of your particular love shines through.
And that, is all that matters.
Happy anniversary to my own love, my college sweetheart, father of my children, and design partner for life.
