Oh, Portland. I love thee, but I totally empathize with all of my east coast friends who move here and complain about the lack of “good bagels” here.
Translation: New York-style bagels. Portland doesn’t know how to make good New York-style bagels. As a longtime Oregonian, I can’t say I disagree.
Thankfully, Bowery Bagels is here to save the day. And, they’re baking up a little somethin’ somethin’ special for Portlanders for Fat Tuesday and Purim.
Mirrored after a 1960’s New York bagel shop with custom tile works from the store’s namesake subway station, Bowery Bagels is part New York-style bagel bakery, part sandwich shop, and part retail store. Founded by Brooklyn, NY native Michael Madigan, Bowery Bagels offers a variety of kosher bagels and flavored schmears, as well as sandwiches featuring house roasted meats and house cured meats and fishes.
Fat Tuesday Special: Paczki
Now Bowery Bagels is baking up some special treats you can pre-order online, to help Jews and Gentiles alike celebrate upcoming spring holidays, starting with traditional Polish Paczkis.

These delicious Pączki will only be available on March 4th, so be sure to pre-order now!
Purim Special: Hamantaschen
Purim falls on March 15th and 16th this year, and Bowery Bagels will be baking up some traditional Hamantaschen for the Jewish holiday.
