2015 went by faster than any year in the history of humankind. I am sure of it.
I started to write my year in review, and it quickly became clear that I need to break this year up into two posts: one for FOOD + DRINK BLISS and another just for TRAVEL BLISS.
Because there was so much of everything this year. It was one big bundle of crazy good, ridiculously fun, educational and raucous ball of BLISS, this 2015.
Here’s a look at some of the food highlights of the year.
Best recipes 2015
I made and ate an insane amount of ridiculously fabulous food this year. Were I in my 20s or 30s still, my metabolism would have no issue with this. Now in my 40s, my body quite likes to hold onto that delicious food and store a bit more of it. Not sure what it’s storing it up for. A rainy day? We’ve had more than 25 of those in a row in Oregon, after the hottest, driest summer and early fall ever. Regardless, I’ve found myself having to actually work out more and watch what I eat a bit.
In the beginning of 2015, I shared more details about my food journey to figure out what was causing so many of my most recent skin flareups. After many tests, it was determined that I was highly sensitive to dairy and eggs, bananas, pecans, and pineapples. Then, I did an elimination diet. Being a food blogger on an elimination diet was most definitely challenging!
Never one to turn away from a challenge, I used the time to work on recipes that were elimination diet-friendly, including these Paleo Donuts.
My most visited recipe from 2015: Slow Cooker Honey Bourbon Meatballs. That was followed by my Classic Chicken Marsala Recipe, and then my Honey Bourbon Wings. (all pictured in the large photo above).
I also ate my way through so many fabulous food events and feasted at some amazing restaurants in Portland, such as Toro Bravo, Portland Penny Diner, Aviary, Smallwares, and so many more. And Feast Portland was once again THE food and beverage event of the year. I loved it so much!
Combining some Travel Bliss, I shared Where to Eat in Las Vegas, Nevada; Where to Eat and Drink in Kalispell, Montana; Where to Eat & Drink in Walla Walla, Washington; Where to Eat and Drink in Missoula, Montana; and Where to Eat & Drink in Boise, Idaho.
Best wine and cocktails 2015
2015 was also the year that I refined my wine palate and cocktail mixing abilities. I shared what I learned during a private cocktail making lesson in Las Vegas with master Mixologist Juyoung Kang – that was such a cool experience! I started the Mixology Monday series this year, and am SO glad that you all seem to enjoy it! From Boozy Smoothie Shots to Hazelnut Bourbon Sour to a delicious wintery Rosemary Citrus Old Fashioned, I loved the opportunity to get creative and flex some cocktail making muscle this year.
Oh wine. Vino. My drink of choice (usually, along with lots of water) at the end of a long day. It’s glorious living in Oregon Wine Country, and I really love sharing more features, tips, and new wines with all of you!
The wine bliss post you all found the most interest/helpful to make it the top wine post of 2015: my Urban Bliss Life Girls’ Wine Tasting Weekend Guide. You also enjoyed my recent Top Holiday Wines feature, as well as the features on Keeler Estate Vineyard, Durant Vineyards, and Raptor Ridge Winery.
Looking Ahead to 2016
What’s in store for the FOOD BLISS and DRINK BLISS sections of Urban Bliss Life in 2016? More recipes! I already have a long list of main dish recipes coming up in January and February. I also have at least a half dozen restaurant reviews already in the queue, plus more winery features from Oregon Wine Country, Sonoma Wine Country, and beyond.
