This week has been non-stop busy, and of course, it is during this busy time when things seem to get all wack-a-doodle. I’ve spent a few meetings wondering “did I remember to lock the side door? Did I turn off the heat?” I’ve come home to find some lights on that I swore I turned off before I left. My wireless headphones and speakers randomly decided to not work during conference calls. Blame Mercury in Retrograde combined with Mom Brain (I’m totally using the Mom Brain excuse until my kids are 30. Who’s with me?!), but regardless of the reason, it would be nice if they all connected to one central hub that I could easily control with a few taps on my phone while I was out of the house.
That’s what the wireless age and Smart Home revolution is about, right? Convenience and automation, all via app.
So I was super excited about the opportunity to work with a new Kickstarter campaign for Hive: a smart home, security, and entertainment system, through the The Mom It Forward Blogger Network. When I heard about Hive, I immediately thought, “this invention is totally for ME!!” And, knowing many of you are busy moms & dads, and busy entrepreneurs as well, I think you will all love it too!
Hive: Smart Home, Security, and Entertainment
For me, the Smart Home revolution is all about making our busy, sometimes over-wired lives, streamlined and simpler. Hive can do this by allowing you to manage three big areas all at once: home security, entertainment, and automation, all in one super simple, easy to set up and use, system.
You can control your home lights, electronics, appliances, locks, and other connected devices from anywhere. Not to mention, you can use Hive as your main speaker system throughout the house, and as a security monitoring system.
You can set up motion sensors, door and window contacts, and video cameras, and receive notifications and updates from the HiveApp.
Multi-function. All-in-one system. Wireless. Handy dandy single app.
I love it.
How It Works
With Hive, there’s a main Hub that you place somewhere in the main part of your house. The Hub “speaks” to a Hive Speaker, which acts as the “voice” of your home and alerts the Hub. The Hive Speaker also acts as a two-way communication with emergency response. Hopefully you won’t be needing that function anytime soon ;) but glad it’s there if you do!
Most of the time, you’ll probably notice the Hive Speaker the most when you are using it to jam out to your favorite tunes. Hive has multi-room pairing, which will allow you to play a different song from every single speaker in your house, so your daughter can sing along with her Katy Perry and Taylor Swift Pandora stations while you and your hubby dance around to the Beastie Boys and Foo Fighters downstairs.
Hive is Google Cast Ready and works with half a billion different security sensors in homes, including WiFi, Zwave, and Bluetooth, which basically means: when it comes to security, entertainment, and automation, Hive has you covered.
You control it all from your mobile device through the HiveApp, which will be available on both iOS and Android.
Sleek and elegant design
As a graphic designer, form is just as important as function for me when it comes to smart home devices. I was even picky about design when I chose a carbon monoxide detector! I love Hive’s sleek modern lines and elegant curves that will look good in almost any home or office.
One of the aspects about Hive that I really love as a small business owner, a consumer, a mom, and as a devout friend to happy party people, is that the company is committed to giving power and a voice to its customers. They know how important it is to get out there and get direct feedback, and have customers connect — with the company and with each other – at various events, from inspirational retreats to fun dinner parties.
I am totally in love with this Tokyo Dream Hive party:
I so want that pink truck. And the lighted marquee! You know how much I love lighted marquees!
Don’t the Hive parties look like so much fun? I KNOW how many of you fine readers are my fellow happy party people. Maybe someday we’ll meet up at a #BuzzAboutHive event! Be sure to follow Hive on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest to get upcoming event info and catch photos from recent events.
Hive on Kickstarter
I’m a huge fan of crowdfunding as a platform to get innovative projects out into the hands of the masses, being supported by the public. I’ve worked on a few Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns as a social media strategist, and I’ve backed even more as a consumer. If you have never backed a crowdfunding campaign before, be sure to read the Kickstarter FAQs, or, you can feel free to ask me any questions about my personal experiences with these types of campaigns. Feel free to send me an email, or reach me via Twitter or Facebook. I can tell you that I am thoroughly PUMPED for Hive to reach its funding goal, and hope you will help me help them get there!
What aspect about Hive is the most appealing to you?
