Today’s post is about good friends…a little different than just about food, wine, and travel. It’s about Life Bliss. Feel free to hop over to my latest recipes, restaurant reviews, travel stories & travel tips, or wine reviews!
To say it has been an emotional 2017 is an understatement.
Between the election results, my grandmother passing away, and general work and family stress, I’ve found myself getting mentally and emotionally tapped out from time to time.
But I know from experience that I’m never alone. I am blessed to not only have my husband and kids, and my immediate and extended family, but I have my gaggle of girlfriends whom I know are always there for me.
Good friends are SUCH a blessing. I often believe I am where I am today in life because of the support of my girlfriends, and the refreshing laughter, love, and light they bring to my life.
Do you have a group of good friends who do the same for you?
Good Girlfriends Are Gold
We all have different people in our lives for different reasons.
Some are mama business friends who have supported you and watched both your business(es) and your family grow over the years.
I seriously do not know where I would be without these ladies!! They were and still continue to be my lifeline when it comes to running my business and raising my kids!
There are those girlfriends who are always up for a lovely brunch or girls’ afternoon of wine tasting (okay, that actually describes almost all of my girlfriends…;).
The school moms who share your days of not having time to shower and or wearing the same jeans again. The ones with whom you trade carpool duties, after school playdates, sports pick-ups, and volunteer times.
And the girlfriends who have been there since you were just learning to be an adult on your own, and who love you just the way you are, always.
I feel so blessed to have so many of these amazing women in my life, and right now more than ever, I feel like I need to do a better job of letting them know that I am there for them, too. That I think of them often, care about them deeply, and will always be around for them, no matter what.
3 Everyday Ways to Thank Good Friends
So in trying to reach out more, I’ve been trying to do more things each day to thank my good friends. Of course, there are COUNTLESS things you can do, but here are just three very simple actions you can do that add up to a lot!
- Send more random texts and emails. When I’m in the grocery line, or just watching TV, and something makes me think of one of my girlfriends, I’ll send a quick text. Just to let them know I am thinking about them. I know that anytime I get a random, unexpected text from a friend, about anything at all, it makes me smile!
- Make plans with them. We’re all busy. But I am trying to make more time to schedule out times for hikes, brunches, walks, and just general hang out time. Spontaneous plans are awesome, but if it’s not in my calendar, it’s too easy to let more time slip by before we see each other. And initiating a get-together is a great everyday way to let your friends know that you care and appreciate their friendship.
- Send little thank you gifts. My friend Heather is amazing at this. She’ll just show up with a bag full of things that made her think of you. I’m trying to do this more, too!
Recently, Shari’s Berries sent me a sweet gift box, and so I had them send a box to my friend Amy as well. Tomorrow is her birthday and I thought she would enjoy these, but it’s also National Compliment Day! How appropriate :)
Amy loves food as much as I do, and I thought the dipped cookies and champagne strawberries would be perfect for her. They’re decadent and elegant, but still super fun, and they’re so delicious! She deserves something sweet on her birthday!
Of course, you don’t have to spend much money or any money at all on thank you gifts. You can send a quick thank you note along with a favorite photo of the two of you. Maybe you could make a new workout playlist for your friend. For your civic-minded friend, you could make a small donation to her favorite charity. The possibilities are endless!
Be a Good Friend
I need these good friends in my life, and am so grateful for their friendship. I wish I could shower them all with cases of wine and boxes of chocolates all the time! But I’m at least going to try to reach out a little more than I already do, to thank them in big and small ways.
Because I recognize that as important as it is to have good girlfriends, it’s even more important to BE one.
Do you have a group (or two or three groups) of friends like this in your life? What do you like to do to show them you care?
I received an order of Shari’s Berries free of charge, but as always, all opinions and photos are my own.
