Mom Entrepreneur Monday: Birthday Interview as Bliss Boy Turns Nine!

Tomorrow, my son turns nine years old. One year away from double digits. So hard to believe!

From the time he was born, my son and I have been pretty much joined at the hip. My husband and I always believed that children should be exposed to as many new experiences and new places as possible, and when my kids were babies, I pretty much took them everywhere with me.

We took him to the mall at just five days old because none of the newborn clothes we had fit him. At two months old, the in-laws were in the country visiting their first grandchild, so we took him on his first trip to an Oregon winery. Perfect place for his first picnic!

He is the reason I started blogging in October of 2004. He was just five months old, and I needed an outlet to share this whole new mom adventure with friends and family (this was pre-Facebook, remember). Back then, he went by “Boo” on the blog.

One of my earliest blog posts was about his first flight when he was 5.5 months old. He went on a work trip with me to New York. Look how tiny he was! And for proof that he was my world over all else, I walked out on Donald Trump speaking in order to feed my baby.

My son grew up alongside my businesses. He went to meetings with me, traveled with me, charmed some clients, and most of all, through it all, he helped me always have a crystal clear vision of my life’s purpose: to be the best mother, role model, cheerleader, and guide that I can be for him and his sister. I do all of this, for him, and for his sister. Whenever I question my decisions in life, I look at him and I know: I’m doing something right. Because he is a freakin’ AWESOME kid, and being his mom is the absolute best honor in the whole crazy world.

My son tomorrow turns nine. I cannot fully express how PROUD I am of my son. He has been the absolute best big brother in the world. He’s so thoughtful, always remembering what is important to others and always doing little gestures for others, especially his little sister. He is kind and responsible, loves to laugh, loves to read, and he loves to make other people laugh and to make sure that others feel included. His sense of humor is pretty sharp and he’s always been keenly perceptive. Although most people would describe him as being a quiet, shy kid, I am one of the fortunate few who knows his true self: he’s a loud, silly, fun, intuitive, perceptive, competitive boy who doesn’t need or want attention, he just wants to enjoy the moment with a small group of people he cares about.

Son, you are such an amazing, incredible human being. I am over-the-moon proud and so lucky to be your mom. Thank you for always showing us different ways of looking at things, and reminding us of what’s always the most important thing in our lives: family. We love you!!

Here are his answers to this year’s Birthday Interview questions. I have a feeling I’ll have to change some questions next year for the big Double Digits birthday. He’s growing up, after all… *sniff sniff*
