Do you have a sweet tooth? I do. And I’m married to a Swiss guy who has a well-trained palate for sweets.
On Friday afternoon, I was invited to a local food blogger’s tasting of Saint Cupcake’s new and upcoming sweet treats, and brought along my fellow sweets-loving hubby. Oh what a sweet treat it was, after a long (very long, sleepless, overworked) week!
Located at 1138 SW Morrison in Portland, Oregon (with another location, Saint Cupcake Deluxe, at the corner of SE 33rd and Belmont), Saint Cupcake serves a LOT more than just cupcakes. Launched by mom entrepreneur extraordinaire Jami Curl in November 2005, Saint Cupcake moved to its current larger digs in June 2011. The space is bright, cheerful, and, maybe it’s the high exposure to sugar that helps with this, but I think everyone I’ve met who works there is super sweet and helpful. My husband and I are huge fans of supporting local businesses, and when the people who work there are kind, happy souls to boot, we will be super fans for life.
My favorite new star player in their exciting fall line-up: Pints & Pies, a delicious pairing of pints of their gourmet ice cream with a set of mini pies. Perfect for entertaining guests, holiday parties, work events, or just a night at home with the family. These are slated to be formally introduced in, I believe, November sometime.
My husband and I were talking about how this pairing of mini apple pies with Chinese five spice caramel ice cream would be the perfect addition to one of our future family movie nights.
The single stand-out for me, was the Smokey Chocolate Flake ice cream, in their Melty Goods section. Oh man. I could eat a whole pint of this ice cream in one sitting. First you get hit with some saltiness, then some smokiness, then the flavors mellow into a tasty sweetness and slight crunch that just makes every bite pack a punch of every single flavor sensation you could ever want in a sweet treat. It is THAT. GOOD. (Although my photo below does not do it justice; learning to work with a new lens, folks!) :)
Saint Cupcake is also now offering candies just in time for Halloween. They have sea salt caramels, Earl Grey caramels, and chocolate caramels…
…as well as this crunchy (but not break-your-teeth hard, for those of us oldies) Peanut Craquelin…
…and a line of Goodie Drops, including white chocolate with figs and these chocolate with peanut craquelin Goodie Drops.
Saint Cupcake offers several varieties of cookies, including these chewy brownie cookies…
…incredible bittersweet chocolate with Jacobsen salt cookies, and these smokey sweet alder-smoked chocolate chip cookies.
And of course, there are their signature cupcakes, which honestly, just keep getting better. If you haven’t had a Saint Cupcake cupcake in a while, you need to try them now.
My favorite are their assortment of mini cupcakes:
As a fellow entrepreneur, I am always impressed and intrigued in the many ways local companies diversify and grow their businesses. I knew Saint Cupcake offered more than cupcakes, but I had no idea to the extent of how much more than cupcakes they offered. They also have an online menu & ship within the U.S., which is perfect for sending some local yummy goodness to friends and family out-of-state.
Owner Jami Curl and head baker Karla Arria-Devoe have truly poured their hearts and souls into this business, and the products speak for themselves. This is a business built from love and grown with sharp ingenuity, passionate innovation, and a wonderful team.
You can probably already guess that I am a Saint Cupcake Super Fan for life. Now it’s your turn: go check out their delicious new fall offerings!
Disclosure: we were treated to complimentary samples of sweet treats by Saint Cupcake. All opinions stated are my own.
