If you’re a DIY sort of guy or gal, I am betting that, like me, you’ve been curious about screenprinting. I’ve always loved being able to make my own t-shirts, tea towels, bags, and fabrics for the house and office, but iron-on and other DIY methods never seem as permanent or cool as screenprinting. I have a laundry list of ideas that have accumulated over the years (sound familiar?), but there’s something about screenprinting that always intimidated me a little. Maybe it’s because I always thought I needed to invest in large equipment and expensive supplies.
Then I discovered Ryonet, through my friend Kim of Today’s Creative Blog. I had no idea I could screenprint at home without breaking the bank, and the folks at Ryonet help take the fear out of the whole process. I feel empowered after spending time with them, and I am SO EXCITED to be able to help empower one of you to feel the same by giving away one of Ryonet’s awesome DIY screenprinting kits!
Ryonet Screenprinting Class
Recently, I had the opportunity to take a screenprinting class at Ryonet, based in Vancouver, Washington.
Ryonet CEO, Ryan Moor, started the company 10 years ago. The company’s roots were planted when Ryan started screenprinting t-shirts for his band. Over the years, he has nurtured its growth from an online eBay company to an Inc. 5000 company with office & warehouse space in Washington, California, and Arkansas.
Ryonet’s mission is simple: make screenprinting easy, fun, and affordable for everyone. They offer screenprinting classes in Washington, New York, Arkansas, and California, and also have helpful tutorials on the Ryonet YouTube channel.
Josh Wells coordinates classes at the Vancouver, Washington headquarters and helped lead our group of bloggers during our screenprinting class.
Josh walked us through the process step-by-step, answering all of our questions (and we had a lot of questions!). Then after the demo, it was our turn to screenprint.
I had a great time trying my hand at screenprinting in the Ryonet studio (making a cameo appearance to the left of me is my pal Melissa).
The first go honestly didn’t turn out so well. First, I’m short, and the particular machine I chose was at a higher level and I couldn’t get above it enough to put maximum weight over it. The print I chose didn’t transfer well to the thick canvas bag I had.
However, I was able to give it another go, so I decided to choose a different color and materials for my next attempts.
Ryonet produces a variety of great ink colors, and if you ever have any question about which inks you need, their customer service staff are super helpful.
I chose a cool Supernova Blue to do for both a t-shirt for my daughter, and a Portland print for the house.
My next attempts turned out pretty well! I love them so much, and it really was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
So now, as the holidays approach, it’s my turn to put these new screenprinting skills to the test to create the laundry list of DIY screenprinting projects I’ve accumulated on my To Do list over the years.
And, it’s YOUR turn, too!
Ryonet has generously offered to give away one DIY Print Shop Screenprinting Kit + Press to one lucky Urban Bliss Life winner!
If you win, everything you need to get started in home screenprinting will arrive at your doorstep in this super cool package.
